Sharon’s Best of 2016

Reviewer Sharon shares a few great reads from 2016…

The Illuminae Files-01 and Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) – Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Action packed, edge of your seat sci fi/ fantasy drama of love and survival. Page turner. Groundbreaking graphic design. Suitable for young adults and adults.

Freedom Ride – Sue Lawson

Historical fiction centred around the real Freedom Ride of the sixties. Racial discrimination, ignorance, coming of age. Sue Lawson is an amazing writer. For young adults/adults.

Jasper Jones – Craig Silvey

I loved this murder mystery, page-turner.  Discrimination, innocence and lies. For young adults/adults.

For young children

Anything Aaron Blabey – laugh out loud rhymes that beg to be shared again and again.

Also Jon Klassen’s picture books about hats, beginning with I Want My Hat Back

Mo Willems -Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus

Mark and Rowan Sommerset-Baa Baa Smart Sheep and the sequel I Love Lemonade

All deliciously subversive, tongue in cheek humour, fun for all ages.

Herve Tullet- Press Here and Mix it Up – interactive- you’ll love seeing young children touching, shaking and sliding the pages- and not an iPad in sight!
