Renee Treml, Ten Little Owls, Random House Australia, 29 August 2016, 24pp., $14.99 (board book), ISBN 9780143782537
This book is a delight from start to finish. It’s a 1 to 10 counting book based around baby nocturnal native animals, from owls to gliders, who sip, swim and share their way into your heart. While the words are very simple (as they should be), it’s the illustrations that make this book special. Treml’s detailed drawings are sublime, and I have found myself leafing through this book just to gaze at them on more than one occasion. As my aunt, who spotted this book on my table, stated: “Looking at this book makes you happy.” I couldn’t agree more. Treml also creates limited edition prints for design markets and online retailers. Highly recommended.
