Matt Stanton, Evie Dreams Big (Bored #3), HarperCollins Publishers, April 2023, 240 pp., RRP $14.99 (pbk), ISBN 9780733342066
Evie has big plans. Fed up with her annoying sister and her family who do nothing to intervene, she decides to move out of home and build her own place on a vacant lot in Turtle Place. Mum doesn’t seem to believe she can do it, which makes Evie even more determined to make it happen, but when she starts planning, every kid in the street suddenly has an opinion on what she should build and how to do it.
This is the third book in the Bored series, with each book told from a different kid’s point of view and now it’s Evie’s turn. The stories perfectly capture what it’s like to be a kid, navigating life, and families, which can be confusing, frustrating, and wonderful… sometimes all at the same time.
The neighbourhood is filled with interesting characters, complete with flaws and kindnesses, each of them making up life in this quirky suburban street.
