Michelle Robinson (text),  David Roberts (illus), A Beginner’s Guide to Bear Spotting,  Bloomsbury/Allen & Unwin, March 2016,  32pp., $22.99 (hbk), ISBN  9781408845554

Presented as a field guide to bear hunting, this large format hard back is full of fun.  It describes the difference between black and brown bears and provides advice on what to do if you encounter one of either colour.  Although related humorously, the guide does emphasise that bears are very dangerous.  David Roberts has won numerous awards and his amusing illustrations complement the lighthearted tone of the story and the imaginative design that creates a surprise on every page.  Ages 3-5.
