Best Books of 2018 – Julie Murphy

Dingo by Claire Saxby and Tannya Harricks

Dingo’s faultless text, stunning illustrations and design all play their part to create a beautiful narrative non-fiction nature book that looks set to become a classic.

Maya & Cat by Caroline Magerl

A story about friendship and a child’s simple, unselfish desire to help another being. Careful word choice and sparing, lyrical language make this a great book to read aloud. The water colour and ink illustrations are simply joyous.

Ten Pound Pom by Carole Wilkinson and Liz Anelli

A fascinating account of a young girl’s immigration to Australia with her family in the 1960s. Text and illustrations are packed with fascinating details about a part of Australia’s history that I loved learning about.
