The Hullabaloo about Elephant Poo

Dee White (text) and Christopher Nielson (illustrator), The Hullabaloo about Elephant Poo, HarperCollins Children’s Books, December 2024, 24 pp., RRP $24.99 (hbk), ISBN 9781460766194

When the author has had more than 25 books published and the illustrator is a multi-award winner, there is much to enjoy in this amusing, factually based book about elephant poo.

It must be one of the most sustainable and useful by-products, having myriad uses from making bricks, paper, plant fertiliser, and gas that is used for stoves, light and heating. Finally, believe it or not, when elephants are fed with coffee beans, they are broken down in the elephants’ digestive system and excreted as high-quality coffee beans that have a chocolate, malt and or spice taste.

The illustrations perfectly complement the light-hearted text, as do the fabulous endpapers, one depicting lines of elephants, the other a board game charting successful applications of the poo. Ages 3-6.
