The crayons go back to school

Drew Daywalt (text), and Oliver Jeffers (illustrator), The crayons go back to school, HarperCollins Publishers, November 2023, 32 pp., RRP $27.99 (hbk), ISBN 9780008560850

The crayons from the #1 New York Times bestselling The day the crayons quit are ready to go back to school! In this sequel, the crayons say goodbye to the beach as it’s time to return to the classroom. One by one, the crayons say what they love at school like seeing old friends, making new friends, and undertaking their favourite subjects – reading, writing, math, science. They love the art class at the end of the book, where they scribble and have fun making a mess.

This is a comic way of presenting crayons and the challenges of school, while entertaining the young readers. It is not in the same league as The day the crayons quit as there needs to be a bit more story. However, it is an enjoyable read.
