Lucinda Gifford, Tayles of the Forest (The Wolves of Greycoat Hall #3), Walker Books, April 2024, 224 pp., RRP $16.99 (pbk), ISBN 9781760658090
This is the third book in the delightful and whimsical series, about Boris, Randall and Leonora Greycoat, a family of wolves who live in Moravia; a place of medieval alleyways, curious houses in the middle of forests and quirky wolfish traditions. This time it’s Christmas. A time for feasting, presents and even more feasting. But when Boris is given a rare book of Moravian fairy tales, a mysterious guest arrives at the house and items start disappearing from the Greycoat’s home. Luckily, Boris has friends visiting for the holidays and they are on the case to find out who is behind these strange happenings.
There’s so much to enjoy about this book. The very cute family of wolves, the intriguing setting of Moravia, the inclusion of stories from Boris’s book of fairy tales and extracts from A Guide to Morovia, that help explain some very unique Moravian wolfish traditions. And, of course, there are Lucinda’s joy-filled illustrations generously layered throughout.
Fans of the Greycoats are going to love this further exploration of Gifford’s wolfish world, but no doubt will also miss them as this is the final book in the series. Playful, fun and a complete delight of a book.
