Nate’s Noisy Nose

Frances Mackay (text) and Dotti Colvin (illustrator), Nate’s Noisy Nose, Frances Mackay, October 2024, 32 pp., RRP $18. 99 (hbk), ISBN 9780646705323

This paperback opens with a wonderfully detailed double-page spread depicting at least ten different kinds of noses, a very amusing collection of children’s and adults’ noses of every description.

The story then focuses young Nate’s nose that appears to house a variety of musical instrument sounds that he delights in employing to entertain friends, family and sometimes the public. However, the noise can sometimes be too loud and disruptive. Various remedies are tried to muffle the sounds but none is successful until the last solution … Children will love this tale of nonsense related with gusto and illustrated with equal humour in the energetic drawings.

Frances Mackay has published innumerable picture and activity books and teacher resources, and, as with the highly skilled artist, Dotti Colvin, their experience is clear. This book can be purchased via the author’s website.
