Jamie Russell, Endgame (SkyWake #3), Walker Books, August 2023, 288 pp., RRP $16.99 (pbk), ISBN 9781406397536
The Red Eyes have taken over the Earth. Can Casey use her new powers to lead the Resistance? The third in an exciting and original sci-fi adventure trilogy for the gaming generation.
Propelled four years into the future, Casey and her teammates barely recognise the Earth that they had just left some days before. In the search for intergalactic domination the Red Eyes have taken over, leaving destruction and desolation in their wake. It appears that they have brainwashed all the adults – and including Casey’s younger brother – in their oppressive rule.
Intent on liberating their families and preventing the Red Eyes from unearthing the final and crucial piece in the puzzle, the gamers join forces with a motley crew who are self – christened The Resistance. Still possessing the powers bestowed on her by the clever and ancient Squids, Casey must now channel these gifts and use them to lead the Resistance against this power – hungry evil force. But will it be enough for Casey and her friends to overtake the Red Eyes?
The SkyWake series has limitless appeal for both boys and girls. Casey is sure to inspire girls with her heroism and bravery and management of her boy team. And the blend of gaming and sci-fi combined with some massive battles is also certain to appeal to an audience of boys.
Endgame is a fitting conclusion. In fact, this trilogy is a must have series for classrooms and bookshelves.
