Digby and the Yodelayhee…who? is a music themed book written by early childhood teacher, educator and performer Renee Price.
Using his noise-o-meter and with the help of his friends, Digby Fixit sets off to find the reason behind a new noisy noise.
This is the second picture book featuring Digby Fixit and introduces kids to a musical vocabulary and instruments. The book also includes an original song — Digby’s Jam, which you can download free. The score is included at the back of the book. I liked how the kazoo and sticks were included instruments as well as the usual piano, guitar and drums. Sticks are something that all kids can pick up straight away and jam with!
The illustrations by Anil Tortop are just gorgeous. I love the way the kids are drawn and the pages are just so bright, colourful and full of movement and fun.
It’s easy to see that a lot of thought has gone into this book’s educational and musical aspects, and this allows it to be used as a base for a number of class activities. The author has also developed a complimentary dramatisation — Digby Fixit Live! which she performs in libraries, early education centres and primary schools.
With the themes of friendship, music, and with time and counting thrown in, this is a cute, educational book that can be enjoyed in many ways.
