Katie Stewart, What Colour is the Sea? Fremantle Press, March 2020, 32 pp., RRP $24.99 (hbk), ISBN 9781925816389
What colour is the sea? is a lush author-illustrator production by West Australian Katie Stewart. It features a simple story about Koala who wants to know the colour of the sea. Each of her animal friends gives her a different answer and so she sets off to find out for herself.
Of course, Koala discovers that at the different times of day the sea does in fact look like all the different colours her friends suggested. This book could be used to study colours with pre-schoolers and for junior primary kids looking at Australian fauna. It’s also a gentle encouragement of the natural curiosity inherent to childhood.
