When I shared this book with a lively 5 year old, she was completely engaged and, over the next 24 hours we spent together, she kept wanting to return to it.  This says a lot about the quality of a picture book.

Firstly the vibrancy and colour of the artwork is instantly appealing. The broad blue background of the ocean that covers each page, initially is full of multi-hued and patterned fish in all sorts of varying shapes. As the composition of the artwork changes the story visually evolves inviting the reader to create their own narrative.  It is also interactive, in that it invites the reader to find the starfish, the jellyfish and clownfish on each page.

Although the text is one that obviously holds a strong environmental message, the way in which this message is conveyed is perfect for the intended audience and encourages them to make relevant comments and observations as they engage with each page. Suitable for a range of readers from 3-10 years.
