Kate Murray, We Who Hunt the Hollow (Hollow #1), Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing, March 2022, 304 pp., RRP $22.00 (pbk), ISBN 9781760508920
The Hollow, a universe ridden with monsters, threatens the safety of the world but are kept at bay by the legendary Hollow Warriors. The Daalman Hollow hunters are one of the most respected warrior families, and Priscilla Daalman struggles to live up to her family’s expectation with her weak power. To make her family proud, Priscilla attempts to unlock another power that proves to be deadly.
With uncontrollable supernatural abilities, dangerous monsters and angry rebels, Priscilla must protect the people she loves the most, which proves to be challenging…
We Who Hunt the Hollow is an excellent book that provides fiction lovers with an intriguing new world with different threats. Priscilla’s constant struggle to prove herself in the novel becomes dangerous to herself and her family, which instils the message that is important to love yourself as you are, and not compare yourself to others. This novel was one of the 2023 Qld Branch Readers Cup books for the Years 9/10 age group, so I would recommend this book to ages 13 and above.
This book was Notabled in the 2023 CBCA Book of the Year Awards for Older Readers and has a sequel released in August, We Who are Forged in Fire.
