Heath McKenzie, Now That’s a Hat, Scholastic Australia, June 2019, 24 pp., RRP $17.99 (hbk), ISBN 9781760664022

Now That’s a Hat is sure to appeal to preschool aged children.

A very dapper dog enters a hat shop in search of the perfect hat. The proprietor of the House of Hats Hats Hats is an accommodating goat, keen to help his customer find just the right hat. The shop keeper becomes increasingly desperate as his customer tries on every hat in the shop. His suggestions get sillier and sillier, and the ensuing chaos will make kids laugh out loud.

McKenzie uses varied text types and vibrant colours that will appeal to his readers. The use of rhyming text, reminiscent of Dr Seuss, makes this book perfect for reading aloud and for story time in a preschool or library.
