Lobsters Can’t Knit

Karla Courtney (text) and Nicholas John Frith (illustrator), Lobsters Can’t Knit, Berbay Publishing, March 2025, 32 pp., RRP $26.99 (hbk), ISBN 9781763571808

A curious story about a lobster who wants to knit a jumper to keep himself warm in his deep- sea cave. He can do many things but his claws and multiple arms make knitting almost impossible, so his friends rally around and offer to help.

All the sea creatures, from clams to seahorses, turtles to swordfish, have a different role and finally they all have a jumper to wear: a lesson in perseverance and learning to accept help.

The text is presented in varying sizes of type for emphasis. The colourful illustrations and endpapers depict the range of expressions on the sea creatures’ faces as they grapple with this unfamiliar task. Ages 3-5.
