Everything Anxiety Ever Told you is a Lie!

Toni Lindsay, Everything Anxiety Ever Told You Is a Lie (*Well, Almost Everything!), Exisle Publishing, July 2024, 144 pp., RRP $37.99 (hbk), ISBN 9781922539991

In the world of ongoing chronic health conditions, mental thoughts, emotions, personalities and relationships, a book like this brings an intentional positive impact on the overall understanding of mental health. Expect to discover significant improvements on wellbeing from experiences of negative people, thoughts or behaviours.

I like that this read is exceptionally resourceful for dealing with anxiety. Abusive or manipulative relationships might intentionally harm others’ mental health to maintain control or the power so it’s vital to have awareness, advocacy, and intervention to protect and support a healthy mind. After all, a healthy mind contributes to overall wellbeing and resilience.

Dr Toni Lindsay is a passionate senior clinical psychologist and specialist in the care of adolescents and young adults with over 15 years of experience in supporting healthy minds. She delves into a range of strategies and offers powerful advice, particularly for the age group of 14 and above, with ways to respond to anxiety (and the control freak).

This is a truly remarkable read that I could not put down. Each chapter is like a journey. Analogies lead to logical conclusions and there are exercises to complete which I found mentally rewarding. I revisited this book often and reread passages when I felt anxiety rising. It was empowering owning and naming these emotions. There’s a lot of brilliance and satisfaction in taking control of managing thoughts in a healthier way, without a focus on medication.

Dr Lindsay’s other books reflect her focus on providing psychological support and practical advice to individuals and families dealing with serious health conditions and I look forward to reading her other titles.

Whether your interest lies in understanding the complexities of human behaviour, helping individuals overcome medical challenges, or contributing to remarkable research, reading psychology offers much for mind growth and discovery. I highly recommend this read as a great mental health resource. Teaching notes are available at the publisher’s website, where you can also purchase a copy.
