Tricia Oktober, Dance, Bilby, Dance, Ford St Publishing, 8 March 2016, 32pp., $22.95 (hbk), ISBN 9781925272130
Moths, leaves, Min-min lights, even shadows dance around him, but Bilby has to practise before he can dance and prance. It is great fun until Bilby’s shadow is entangled with that of a Bunyip. However, all’s well when both Bilby and Bunyip dance together.
October’s striking and gleeful representations of the animal and Bunyip spirit capture the pleasure of the dance. Bilby leaves a plodding picture of a lumpish bilby behind as his dancing becomes increasingly enthusiastic, and on the last pages he leaps and twirls with grace.
