Mark Greenwood (text), and Coral Tulloch (illustrator),The Book of Stone, Walker Books, November 2019, RRP $27.99 (hbk), ISBN 9781760650872
The stones that lay upon and under the planet are considered in all their splendour here. A volcano spews them forth, they fall from the sky, they are eroded by time and water. We use them for an axe head, to grind our bread, as a magnet, a talisman, to build a monument, to mark a death. This is a lovely book illustrated in delicate and soft tones, and it is also highly informative, paying tribute to the world of stones. The endpapers show some of the most remarkable stones and where they may be found. Highly recommended.
